Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

COMMUNIST PARTY LEADERSHIP: According to reports by official sources in Athens, Mr Apostolos Grozos, who reportedly replaced the discredited Nikos Zachariadis as leader of the Communist party of Greece (KKE), has already been pushed aside by (Mitsos) Partsalidis... The Communist radio station has not yet officially announced the composition of the new KKE leadership. JEAN-PAUL SARTRE IN ATHENS: Mr Jean-Paul Sartre, the father of French existentialist philosophy, is currently staying in Athens at the King George Hotel. He spent yesterday visiting archaeological sites. (Ed. note: Sartre was accompanied by his companion, the writer Simone de Beauvoir. They had arrived in Athens a week previously via Yugoslavia.) POWER TRANSFER: A year after the transfer of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) from American to Greek management, the chairman of PPC's board, Mr Petros Gounarakis, held a press conference yesterday to mark the occasion. «Still pending is the purchase by PPC within the next four years of all existing power production units on mainland Greece and on the island of Evia,» he said.
