Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

GREECE - WEST GERMANY: Munich, 4 (From our correspondent K. Zafeiropoulos): The agenda for the continuation of meetings on economic and political issues that Greek Prime Minister Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos is to hold in Germany has already been set. The Greek government believes it is not possible to ignore the importance of Germany in the defense of the Western world, as it is clear that it is capable of supporting the defense effort for a long period of time in its geographic area. (...) Economic issues chiefly concern putting into action the Bonn accords. In fact, there have never been any real difficulties on Germany’s part in providing the agreed credits, but now the Greek government is in a positon to present a specific program of public works to be carried out in Greece. Ptolemais and the aluminium factory top the list. The American proposals for the refinery having been rejected, it is now likely that this project will be undertaken by the Germans on more favorable terms. FOURTH OF JULY: On the occasion of America’s Independence Day, US Ambassador Mr Cavendish Cannon is to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
