BRITAIN-YUGOSLAVIA: Belgrade, 5 – Official talks began here this morning between British Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd and Yugoslav Deputy Foreign Minister Koca Popovic. The talks are mostly focusing on ties between the two countries and issues relating to demilitarization and European security. It was announced that Popovic had told Lloyd he was optimistic about the international situation and set Yugoslavia apart from other countries in eastern Europe, saying that it was determined to maintain its independence from Russia. DEMOLITION: The demolition began yesterday of part of the ancient walls of Athens, discovered on Dragatsaniou Street in Klafthmonos Square, to make way for the construction of an apartment building on the site. AMERICAN NUCLEAR TEST: Nevada Atomic Testing Range, 31 – An atomic bomb was reportedly detonated this morning at the top of a 208-meter tower. Nine hundred men took part in the exercise that followed the explosion. ARTIFICIAL SATELLITES: London, 31 – Moscow radio today broadcast that Russia will soon launch two kinds of artificial satellites in orbit around the Earth.
