VIOLENCE IN CYPRUS: Following a series of attacks this week by British soldiers against Greek Cypriots, ambulances continued to take injured people to their homes after treatment but many people are still hospitalized because of the seriousness of their condition. As all hospital beds are filled, dozens of injured are lying on the floors. The condition of three of the injured is critical, while six others succumbed to their injuries at the Karaplos military camp near Famagusta, where they had been taken, although this report was denied by the British authorities. One British soldier has died in hospital from injuries sustained as a result of friendly fire. TERRORISM: Meanwhile proclamations were distributed in Cyprus yesterday issued by an organization bearing the initials IKO, which pledged to use force to make the Greeks of Cyprus “fear the security forces.” They said IKO was a “British organization aimed at fighting terrorism” and that it was “no longer any use to send guilty persons to court.” It also said that the security forces could no longer “stand by like sheep and watch their colleagues being slaughtered.”
