Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

CROMWELL GROUP: Nicosia, 11 – Pending the arrival of the Turkish delegate who is to take part in the implementation of the British government’s plan for Cyprus and amid generally grim prospects regarding the situation on the island, the British are making great efforts, both officially and on the sidelines, to quell the opposition of the Cypriot people and the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA) to the plan. Two British terrorist groups, known as the Cromwell group and the Anti-Killers Organization of Expatriates (AKOE), have begun taking action, while the occupation forces have stepped up security measures and are exerting pressure on Greek Cypriots while continuing to make concessions to the island’s Turkish minority. According to an official statement today, the government of Cyprus denied any knowledge of the anti-EOKA proclamations signed by “Cromwell” and distributed two days ago. It added that these could have been written by people with bad intentions, bent on creating trouble. The proclamations announce the formation of British groups that have sworn to fight back against EOKA.
