Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

AGNES KELETI: Melbourne, 8 – Contrary to common belief, the athletes who won the most medals at the Melbourne Olympic Games this year were neither the Australian swimmer Murray Rose nor the Soviet runner Vladimir Kuts but a woman gymnast from Hungary: Agnes Keleti who won five medals – three gold and two silver. GAS FOR CARS: Stockholm, 8 – The lack of petroleum products caused by the crisis in the Middle East and which has resulted in a 15-20 percent reduction in petrol consumption has led to reconsideration of a replacement of gasoline and diesel as fuel for vehicles. During the Second World War, 75,000 of the 250,000 cars circulating in Sweden at the time were fueled with gas from the combustion of wood or coal. Thanks to repeated improvements, these gas-fueled cars became very reliable. Further progress enabled these to fully replace liquid-fueled engines. According to one of the largest Swedish automobile manufacturers, consideration is now being given to the production of gases able to be adapted to any vehicle.
