Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

AIRCRAFT CRASHES: The air force chief of staff issued the following announcement yesterday: “Yesterday at about 18.55 local military time, a Dakota aircraft took off from the 113 Battle Squadron at Sedes for the 112 Battle Squadron at Elefsina. After about 45 minutes, contact was lost with the aircraft over the island of Skopelos. Since that time, there has been no sign of the aircraft. It had been on a cargo mission to drop supplies in snowbound regions. On board were a flight crew of four and 13 other air force personnel flying as passengers. The aircraft had enough fuel for seven hours flying time and all on board were equipped with parachutes and other life-saving equipment. As of early yesterday morning, a search has been under way by Greek Royal Air Force craft over the entire area that the aircraft could have traveled. CYPRUS: London, 7 - Sources here have hinted that the appearance of Russian submarines in the Mediterranean could be connected to the shipment of arms to Cyprus. GERARD MANLEY HOPKINS: Mr Gabriel Druckman is to speak on the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins at the British Council today at 7 p.m.
