MENDERES AGAINST MAKARIOS: Ankara, 18 – Turkish Prime Minister Adnan Menderes today officially criticized Britain for freeing the Cypriot ethnarch, Archbishop Makarios, but added that bilateral cooperation between Turkey and Britain would continue toward finding a solution for the Cyprus issue that will satisfy the interests of both countries. Menderes then went on to condemn the Greek government for organizing the rallies to welcome the ethnarch home, which they said were excessive and showed Greece’s acquisitive designs. Meanwhile, according to reports in The New York Times from correspondents in Turkey, an anti-Greek campaign there has been stepped up, as well as the polemic against the ecumenical patriarch. CENTRAL MARKET: The city’s stores are decked with Easter decorations and food shops are feverishly preparing for the resurrection feast. Confectionery shops are filled to the brim with displays of red eggs and various Easter toys and other gifts. CONSTANTINE LOUROS: Early this morning, Constantine Louros, professor emeritus of obstetrics and gynecology at Athens University, died at the ripe old age of 94.
