We have every right to brag about our unique Greek civilization but we often fail to live up to our precious legacy.

A regrettable example of the irresponsible manner in which we treat locals and foreign visitors alike is the jumbled mess of opening hours of museums and archaeological sites.

As of April 1, museums are supposed to operate on the basis of the summer schedule, which means that they should stay open until 7 p.m. However, as a result of poor organization, some museums and sites close at 6 p.m., while others shut their doors at 5 p.m. The National Archaeological Museum remains open until only until 3 p.m.

This sad state of affairs not only deprives many visitors of the opportunity to view the nation’s treasures and precious artifacts, but also illustrates to the entire world the flippancy with which we treat our culture.
