NEW YORK TIMES ON MARKEZINIS: New York, 1- The New York Times reported in a telegram from Athens to the effect that the real power in the (new Papagos) government is in the hands of (Spyros) Markezinis, who has assumed the most important portfolio (Coordination) and is the main link to the Americans. GREEK AIRCRAFT SAVED: London, 3 - According to a Reuters report from Graz, Austria, a Greek passenger aircraft (of the TAE airline) on a regular flight from Frankfurt in West Germany to Thessaloniki and Athens, made a forced landing this afternoon in Graz due to engine trouble. None of the three passengers or five crew members was injured. (...) The engine trouble first occurred after passing Salzburg. The pilot, using just the one engine, landed the plane safely in the middle of a blizzard. TOM PAPPAS: 13- Greek-American Thomas A. Pappas, a shareholder in a group planning to found a petroleum refinery and sugar factory in Greece, has made the following statement in response to reports yesterday that he is likely to be appointed US Ambassador to Greece: “I am a businessman. I have never wanted to hold public office. I am in Athens with my American associates on a matter of business which I hope will be of benefit to the Greek people for a long time to come. I was very surprised to hear of the above-mentioned reports and I will not refer to the matter again.”
