Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

KING AND QUEEN: Paris, 21 - This afternoon, the president of the French Republic, Mr Vincent Auriol, and his wife held an afternoon tea at the Presidential Palace in honor of Greece’s King Pavlos and Queen Frederiki. The event was attended by the Greek ambassador in Paris, Mr Raphail, politicians and diplomats. The Greek royal couple expressed their people’s gratitude for the assistance France had provided for the Greek earthquake victims (in the Ionian Islands) and spoke warmly of the steadily growing friendship between the two nations. The French officials expressed the wish that the royal couple make an official visit to France at some stage. EXILES: The prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos, yesterday received Mr Georgios Kartalis, representing the Democratic Party of the Working People, who protested at certain transgressions by security officers against followers of his party in Epirus. Mr Kartalis also asked that the members of his party who had been sent into internal exile be released, so that they did not spend the winter away from their homes.
