I noted in a recent issue of Kathemerini English Edition an article reporting that the ancient site at Elefsis is now lit up at night. This, of course, will not present the site to visitors as the Greeks who built it intended it to be viewed in full natural daylight. As you are aware, the Greeks were masters of the blending of natural light and architecture. I saw the photo of the site as it appears with the floodlights, and my impression is that it does not even remotely resemble what I remember seeing during my visit there some years ago. In fact, it looks quite ugly. Aside from the historical inappropriateness of the lighting, there is also the matter of light pollution of the night sky that the new lighting produces.
