Is there a need for tighter security at our airports?

I read with some amusement the article published in your August 11 edition reporting the Greek government’s conviction that Greek airports do not require increased security.

We frequently travel through Hania airport where the security can be quite lax. It is not unusual for us to place our hand luggage and coats on the belt to be X-rayed and watch three or four staff talking to each other with their backs to the monitor as our property goes through.

On another occasion, the officer saw something suspicious in our suitcase. He pointed to the monitor and asked us what it was, we told him we did not know and he let us through without opening the suitcase.
