Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

ROYAL COUPLE IN LEBANON: Greece’s King Pavlos and Queen Frederiki, accompanied by Crown Prince Constantine and Princess Sophia, arrived yesterday evening in the port of Beirut on board the destroyer Elli. The royal family was welcomed by President of Lebanon Camille Chamoun and his wife and with great enthusiasm by the Lebanese people. IN BEIRUT: Prime Minister Constantine Georgakopoulos has asked for the details of information contained in reports from Beirut claiming that the Turkish Embassy there has distributed anti-Greek leaflets on the occasion of the visit to Lebanon of the Greek royal family. ANDREAS NOMIKOS: The Greek set and costume designer Andreas Nomikos, currently in the United States, has designed the sets and costumes for two of the most important musical dramas being staged at the festival of modern American opera at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. They are Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti” and Robert Kurka’s “The Good Soldier Schweik” from the novel of the same name by Jaroslav Hacek. Nomikos’s work has received high praise.
