Incentives for RES

The Development Ministry has released for public comment a draft law on the production of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) and the combined production of heating, providing for an acceleration of licensing procedures.

“The new system cuts bureaucracy and provides additional incentives for investment in RES,” said Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas.

The government wants to raise the country’s total installed RES production capacity from about 700 megawatts to 1,000MW in 2010, in line with EU targets and Kyoto Protocol requirements.

The bill will be submitted to Parliament early next month.
