Q2 growth rate at 3.9 pct

The Greek economy grew by 3.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, unchanged from an earlier estimate, National Statistics Service (NSS) General Secretary Manolis Kontopyrakis said yesterday.

He was speaking to reporters ahead of the release of official figures today.

The NSS had issued a flash estimate of 3.9 percent in August. The economy expanded by 4 percent year-on-year in the January-to-March period.

The NSS has forecast average growth of 3.8-3.9 percent for this year, while the country’s central bank has said it expects growth of around 4 percent.

The latest Eurostat data showed eurozone GDP expanded by 0.5 percent in the second quarter from the first quarter and by 2.0 percent from a year earlier. (Reuters)
