New measures to monitor gasoline sales

ANA

Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis announced new measures aimed at boosting competition in the petroleum products market, combating tax evasion and reducing retail prices. The measures include compulsory receipts at gasoline stations through the use of cash registers as of next January, while owners will be allowed to install automatic fuel vending machines that can operate 24 hours a day. Although gas station proprietors have repeatedly objected to such measures, the first response to the minister’s announcement was not so negative yesterday. However, the measures do not include any steps toward liberalizing the issuance of licenses for private fuel trucks.
