INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION IN GREECE
VIEWS FROM THE INSTITUTIONS
Research Facilities

The library houses a wide variety of reference books and slides. Electronic data retrieval is also available, allowing access to the main European and American libraries and data banks. In addition to the library, there are several useful libraries in the area for use by graduate students. The Learning Resource Center is an academic service organization whose purpose is to enhance the teaching research mission at the university by creating and maintaining core resources, including library and information services, computing services, and telecommunications; facilitating and contributing to the development of AUA educational programs; and establishing global access to informational, educational, research, and management resources. Other facilities on campus include multimedia equipment and physics, biology, chemistry, and electronics laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available in the form of teaching, research, and other graduate assistantships, which are available in most programs. The total maximum workload for full-time graduate students is 15 hours per week. Graduate assistants must be full-time matriculated students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The University

Founded in 1982, the American University of Athens was recently upgraded to the status of a teaching and research institution and has an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students. Coeducational in all divisions, AUA has students from the US, Greece, and 38 other countries. The small-sized classes, the use of English instruction, the highly qualified faculty members, curricula, and teaching methodologies reflect the educational philosophy and structure of an American university.

AUA’s distinguished graduate faculty members contribute to the University’s growing reputation as a research university. Many faculty members serve as consultants to government and business, thus bringing their knowledge and experience into the classroom. They are accessible to assist, advise, and solve problems and are committed to meeting the learning needs of their students
