A firefighting aircraft...

EUROKINISSI

A firefighting aircraft drops water over a blaze that ravaged forestland near Lykostomo village in the northwestern prefecture of Ioannina yesterday. The flames approached the village but were doused before they could damage any homes. A fire that broke out near the Peloponnesian village of Zacharo, one of the worst hit in last summer’s fires, prompted a large-scale response by firemen. The extent of the damage it had cause was unclear last night. A blaze that broke out on Monday near the village of Amaranto in Konitsa, northern Greece, burnt some 100 hectares of land.
