Public servants’ rally in Athens turns violent

Protesting public servants clashed with riot police stationed outside the main offices of the Economy and Finance Ministry in central Athens yesterday. The employees are demanding the immediate disbursement of outstanding pensions and retirement payments. Spyros Papaspyrou, the head of the country’s main civil servants’ union ADEDY, condemned the government for the ‘plummeting standard of living of Greek workers.’
