A man watches a tornado off the coast...

REUTERS

A man watches a tornado off the coast of the southern Cypriot city of Limassol yesterday. Hospital officials said they treated about 30 people slightly injured by shards of glass and other flying objects. The tornado swept in from the sea, hit facilities at Limassol’s new port, tore containers off trucks, uprooted trees, ripped off roofs and overturned cars. Damage was also reported further east in the district of Larnaca. Tornados are a common occurrence on the southeastern coast of Cyprus but are rarely as violent as yesterday’s storm. ‘It was like the force of God upon us... I’ve never seen anything like it,’ one resident told Cypriot TV.
