PASOK leader George Papandreou (r) sits next to his predecessor, former Prime Minister Costas Simitis, yesterday at the main opposition party’s ongoing 7th Congress, which started on Thursday at the former tae kwon do Olympic venue in Faliron, southern Athens. The congress ends tomorrow night with the election of 150 new members to the Socialists’ 300-strong national council, which will replace the former central committee. The remaining 150 members will serve ex officio. The 5,898 delegates will also discuss PASOK’s new charter and policy platform.
