Workers hung up a banner outside of the OTE Telecom building in Maroussi, northern Athens, reading ‘For Sale - Why?’ in protest of government plans to cut its 38 percent holding in the former telecoms monopoly. Union members also blocked off the entrance to OTE’s headquarters so employees could not get to work. OTE responded to unionists by describing their protests as being politically motivated. Unionists were meeting yesterday afternoon to decide on their next protest moves. The government hopes to complete the sale of its stake by July next year in a deal that is also likely to give the investor a role in management.
