Athenians stroll on Christmas Eve by a festively decorated Syntagma Square, where municipal authorities have set up a merry-go-round and a small settlement of wooden huts selling sweets. Mayor Dora Bakoyianni has also installed a shorter, though much more ornate, version of the giant Christmas tree placed in the square by her predecessor.
