A partially burnt icon of Jesus is seen in a Greek Orthodox church in the West Bank town of Tulkarem yesterday. It was one of two West Bank churches torched as a wave of Muslim anger over comments by Pope Benedict XVI construed as being anti-Islamic grew. Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios, the spiritual leader of Orthodox Christians, said he regretted the row and cautioned against moves that might strain ties between religions.
