Greens set example by binning party posters

Members of the Ecologist Greens yesterday pressed on with an initiative to remove political parties’ campaign posters from roadsides across Attica, taking down dozens of posters in the coastal suburb of Glyfada following similar clear-ups in Ilioupoli and Argyroupoli.

The Eco Greens, who today are due to continue with their initiative in Voula, said that parties should limit the production and use of promotional posters. The party, which failed to garner the 3 percent minimum of votes to secure a presence in Parliament, ran its election campaign via the Internet, radio and television, avoiding the use of promotional posters and leaflets.

A spokesperson for the Municipality of Athens, whose crews are working around the clock to remove campaign posters from the city center, yesterday told Kathimerini that the cleanup would take about a month.
