Hospitalized cleaner is given a new home

The Greek government yesterday awarded a home to Bulgarian cleaner and unionist Constantina Kuneva, who suffered serious injuries in an acid attack last December.

“This is one of the few times that we feel some joy in this ministry, where we have to confront pain, poverty and unemployment on a daily basis,” said Labor Minister Andreas Loverdos as he handed the keys of the apartment to Kuneva’s mother, Elena.

The 44-year-old is still being treated in the hospital since the incident, which damaged her internal organs and left her disfigured. No one has been charged with the attack, which is thought to be connected to Kuneva’s unionist activities.

In an interview with Sunday’s Kathimerini, Citizens’ Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said he has asked to be briefed on the case so he can get the probe moving.
