METRO RUNNING

Today’s strike called off but workers still want action

Metro workers have called off the 24-hour strike they were due to stage today. In a statement, the employees said they were postponing their action to allow time for new Transport Minister Evripidis Stylianidis to deal with their objections to the contract offered to them. The metro workers believe the contract prevents them from practicing collective bargaining in the future. The employees warned that if their demands are not met, they will strike next week instead. Meanwhile, there will be no trolley bus service today between noon and 5 p.m. due to a work stoppage by employees who are also protesting their collective contract offered to them.
