Church reply to ‘Da Vinci’

The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece has prepared a leaflet which will be given to worshippers on Sunday advising them that the Hollywood film “The Da Vinci Code,” due to hit Greek cinemas next week, is “completely untrue” and “insults” religious sensibilities.

It was revealed yesterday that in the leaflet the Church attempts to disprove point-by-point the theories that the film offers, such as Jesus Christ marrying Mary Magdalene and having living descendants.

The synod refrains from telling people whether to watch the film or not but accuses Dan Brown, the author of the novel on which the movie is based, of insulting the Church by claiming that the fictional work relies on “fraud, lies and the manipulation of its members. “From a historic and religious point of view, the content of the book is completely untrue,” the synod says in its leaflet.
