Appeals court magistrate Miltiadis Andriotelis is likely to release next month the findings of an appeal against a prosecutor’s report that said that the death of Vodafone employee Costas Tsalikidis was due to suicide, sources told Kathimerini.

Prosecutor Yiannis Diotis admitted in June that the death of Tsalikidis was related to the phone-tapping scandal but added that no third party was involved in his final act.

There has been much speculation about the death of the 39-year-old software engineer who is seen as a key figure in a phone-tapping incident that began shortly before and after the Olympic Games and involved senior government figures, including Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

Tsalikidis’s family has appealed against the report on the grounds that it contains inconsistencies and contradictions.

The family argues that the prosecutor’s recognition of the death being connected to the phone-tapping contradicts the conclusion that no one else was involved in the apparent suicide.
