Revised university entrance exam results were reissued yesterday after an Education Ministry mix-up. It means that 155 senior high school students will not be able to go the university or technical college (TEI) that was top of their list. However, 187 students will now be able to study at a higher-ranked institution. Also, eight teenagers who had not been admitted anywhere have now qualified for a place at a university or TEI. The results had to be reissued after a mix-up over the students that had gained entry to military academies. The new results have affected admissions at 150 departments at universities and TEIs.

Piyi Devetzi picked up Greece’s first medal at the athletics World Championships in Osaka, Japan, yesterday. The 31-year-old Olympic silver medalist had to settle for third place and the bronze medal in the women’s triple jump. Devetzi’s best jump of 15.04 meters came with her first attempt. Cuba’s Yargelis Savigne won the event with a jump of 15.28 meters.

The body of an 88-year-old foreign man was pulled out of the sea off Samos yesterday, the coast guard said. Officers were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. A suspected migrant smuggler was also arrested off the northeastern Aegean island yesterday. He was transporting 31 migrants in a wooden boat. The immigrants were taken for checks at the island’s medical center. No more details were given.
