Pope Benedict XVI (left) and Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios...

ERIC CABANIS/AP

Pope Benedict XVI (left) and Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios appear on the balcony of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to bless the faithful, in Latin and Greek, after attending a Divine Liturgy at the Church of St George in Istanbul yesterday. The pope called divisions among Christians 'a scandal to the world' and recalled the faith's deep roots in Europe. His four-day visit to Turkey winds up today.
