DIMITRIS DIMITRIOU/ANA

Residents of Oiniades, western Greece, set fire to a car in protest at the government’s refusal to offer their municipality administrative autonomy. The conservative government yesterday pushed through Parliament a legislative amendment allowing four municipalities independence. PASOK MPs walked out of the discussion on the change to the law, which had been approved during its term in office, claiming that it only serves New Democracy’s political interests.
