August holidays begin for thousands

VAIOS HASALIS/EUROKINISSI

A woman waves goodbye to relatives who have boarded a passenger ferry leaving Piraeus yesterday. Winds of up to 8 Beaufort created difficult conditions for those traveling to Aegean islands. Thousands of Athenians also chose to fly to their holiday destinations. A total of 678 flights were scheduled to leave Athens International Airport yesterday. Some 400 KTEL intercity buses also departed from Athens yesterday for various destinations around the country.
