Inquiry into beating ends

The findings of a police investigation into the alleged beating of a Cypriot student on the night of November 17 are expected to be handed over to senior officials in the next few days.

Antonios Bamiatzis, the chief of police in Thessaloniki, said nine police officers and a police supervisor were allegedly involved in the beating.

The law enforcement agents who are said have participated in the attack will soon face a police disciplinary hearing.

Bamiatzis added that some of the policemen will likely face charges of dishonorable conduct while the others will be hit with fines. There were no further details.

In December, seven policemen and one supervisor were charged with causing unprovoked bodily harm in the incident.
