Guards stop inmate’s heroin-laced letter

An inmate at Hania Prison, on Crete, has landed in even more hot water after guards intercepted a letter to the prisoner that contained heroin, authorities said yesterday.

Prison guards said they found 5 grams of heroin wrapped in cellophane and hidden in a pocket notebook in the envelope.

Authorities did not reveal the identity of the prisoner that the drug was intended for but said that they are searching for the sender, even though there was no return address on the envelope.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested in Thessaloniki on suspicion of dealing large quantities of drugs. Some 600 grams of heroin and 410 grams of cocaine were found at the home of one of the suspects, a 44-year-old Albanian. But police believe he was dealing in much larger quantities after finding 30,000 euros in cash as well.
