Public hospitals, state health clinics and ambulance services were operating on skeleton staff yesterday as employees walked off the job over pay demands. Workers in regional parts of Greece launched a 24-hour strike, while those in Athens decided on a six-hour work stoppage from 9 a.m. onward.
