Teacher faces kidnap charge

A teacher at a technical college (TEI) in Patras is due to face a prosecutor today on suspicion of abducting a 10-year-old boy who managed to escape a few hours later.

The 58-year-old teacher allegedly went on Sunday to the home of the boy's family, with whom he was acquainted, and snatched the child. He then locked the 10-year-old in a storage room he had rented in the city center.

However, the boy managed to escape through a small window in the storage unit. He then ran to a nearby house belonging to relatives and informed them what had happened.

Police arrested the 58-year-old following information given by the child. The teacher denies any part in the alleged kidnapping. Officers are also examining whether the suspect was linked to a fire that broke out at the offices of the boy's parents, who are lawyers, on August 21.
