CHILD PROSTITUTION

Mother ‘exploited her daughters’

A 39-year-old Albanian woman on Saturday faced an Athens prosecutor for allegedly forcing her two daughters, both minors, to work as prostitutes, police said. A 29-year-old Albanian woman employed at the reception desk of a hotel in central Vathis Square was charged with facilitating debauched practices. The mother is believed to have forced her daughters to offer sexual services in exchange for 20 euros, police said.

Rivers flood

Around 80 hectares of land on the plains of Lamia were flooded yesterday when the Spercheios River broke its banks. Yesterday morning, the level of the river had far exceeded its safety level of 2 meters, reaching 2.8 meters before falling back to 2.5 meters by afternoon. Meanwhile, the level of the Evros River dropped but the Acheloos rose in western Greece, submerging large tracts of cultivated land.
