Prisoner thinks up creative phone scam

Supreme Court prosecutor Giorgos Sanidas issued a warning yesterday about a convict who has been allegedly posing as the prosecutor and calling businessmen to ask them to donate money to charities in which he claims to be involved.

The suspect, whose identity is known to police and is serving a prison term, asks victims to deposit money in bank accounts he owns.

“This practice has picked up in the last few days despite the strict warnings that have been made to the suspect and authorities informing him that his actions amount to a criminal act,” said Sanidas.

Company presidents, managing directors, senior management staff and priests have been targeted by th man. Police said that he may be operating with others in the phone scam.
