Olympic gold medalist Fani Halkia gets ready for a qualifying round of the women's 400-meter hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, yesterday. Halkia, who rose from virtual obscurity to win a gold in Athens two years ago, won her heat to claim a place in the event's semifinal.
