A plane drops...

VASSILIS PSOMAS/ANA

A plane drops water on one of three fires that broke out near the Aghios Athanassios monastery yesterday along the Corinth-Patras national road, causing long tailbacks as the highway was closed for more than an hour so firefighters could attempt to extinguish the flames. The fire service put out the fires, which were located within 1 kilometer of each other, shortly before 2 p.m., allowing traffic to flow normally again. Officers said they are examining the possibility that the fires, which broke out on both sides of the road, were the work of arsonists.
