A 55-year-old Albanian woman has confessed to murdering her 25-year-old boyfriend in Aghioi Anargyroi, western Athens, police said yesterday, adding that the man was killed while he was sleeping.

The woman appeared at the local police station at 1.30 a.m yesterday where she confessed to the murder, according to officers.

Asked why she killed the victim, the woman told authorities that he had been beating her and taking her money.

The two are believed to have quarrelled earlier in the evening, according to police.

Police found the victim, also an Albanian national, dead in bed with a single bullet wound to the head.

Next to the victim’s body, police found a .22-caliber pistol which he had possessed illegally.
