Parents held in daughter death

The parents of a 36-year-old woman found dead at her family’s country house on Evia were taken into custody over the weekend on suspicion of being involved in the murder of their daughter.

Authorities were alerted to the case when the 36-year-old’s husband reported her missing last week. On Friday, the woman’s mother went to a hospital in Kymi, on the island of Evia, to ask for a death certificate for her daughter, allegedly claiming that she had died after falling down some stairs.

After searching the family’s home, officers found the 36-year-old’s body wrapped in a sheet in a bathroom.

The woman’s father, a former Japanese diplomat who served at The Vatican, and her mother were arrested. Police suspect that the 67-year-old mother may have suffocated her daughter with a pillow after the pair argued over the custody of the latter’s child.
