Unprocessed evidence ruled out in ELA trial

As the prosecution yesterday presented in court material evidence against five people suspected of belonging to the Revolutionary Popular Struggle (ELA) terrorist group, defense lawyers said many of the items have yet to be processed by police experts.

Arguing that police forensic labs have yet to conduct tests on much of the evidence, some of which was not even included in the initial lists of items to be submitted by the prosecution, lawyers said they would have difficulty conducting their defense. Most of the items were seized 16 months ago, when four of the defendants were arrested.

Presiding judge Elissavet Brilli finally agreed to only take into consideration evidence that has been tested so far.

“This evidence is one of the reasons I am in prison, and I would like to finally get a glimpse of it,” defendant Angeletos Kanas commented.
