Anarchist group may provide terrorist link

Police were combing through the home of a 26-year-old man arrested last week for possible evidence linking him to terrorist activity after they found four handguns in his central Athens apartment.

The man was arrested by police late on Thursday, along with a 40-year-old male, in connection to a firebomb attack by anarchists on riot police officers two months ago during which some items of police equipment were stolen.

After a surveillance operation, the two were nabbed by police just as they were about to dump bags containing parts of stolen riot shields in a rubbish bin.

Police sources said that, based on initial evidence, the four guns have not been used in any criminal activity. Authorities are concerned, however, about the more violent means to which anarchist groups have been resorting in their clashes with police.
