Ex-N17 cons out on parole

Two former members of the disbanded November 17 terrorist group were yesterday released from jail on parole after serving three-fifths of their prison sentences.

Sotiris Kondylis and Thomas Serifis had originally been sentenced to 25 years and 17 years in jail respectively but these terms were reduced to 11 years and eight years by an appeals court in May. The same court dismissed an appeal by convicted N17 mastermind Alexandros Yotopoulos against his multiple life sentences and upheld the sentences of another 12 convicted N17 members.

Kondylis and Serifis, who have been in Korydallos jail since 2002, appealed for their release on parole after serving three-fifths of their prison sentence, as the law permits.

The two men, who reportedly displayed good behavior in prison and are said to have repented for their actions and involvement in terrorism, will have to report to their local police stations twice a month and to remain at their current addresses.
