Liberal immigration laws...

LOUISA GOULIAMAKI/AFP

Bangladeshi immigrants protesting in Athens yesterday hold a picture of a 24-year-old fellow countryman who died near the Aliens Bureau on Petrou Ralli Street earlier this month. The protesters condemned alleged police violence against immigrants and called for more liberal immigration laws. The death of the Bangladeshi migrant, who fell into a ditch in Votanikos near the Aliens Bureau, came three months after a 28-year-old Pakistani man died after falling in the same spot. Rights activists claim police had chased the migrant following a clash outside the bureau, resulting in him falling into the ditch. Police refute these claims.
