VASSILIKI PASCHALI/ANA

Farmers close to Larissa in central Greece try to save what they can of their cotton crops yesterday after farmland was flooded during heavy rainfall in the area. Agricultural Development Minister Evangelos Bassiakos, who visited the hardest-hit areas, described the damage as being unprecedented and said that farmers will be compensated. Compensation applications can be submitted to the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA) over the next 12 days.
