Plug pulled on power company con artist

A 40-year-old man accused of robbing elderly citizens in Athens after entering their homes by pretending to be an employee of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) was arrested yesterday, police said.

The victims told police that the supect would insist on entering the house in order to fix a problem with the electricity network. The man is suspected to have robbed 11 homes and taken more than 6,000 euros in cash. However, sources said that the total number of thefts will probably be much higher.

The suspect, who was not identified, mostly targeted homes in Aghios Dimitrios, southern Athens, a source added.

Police set up a special task force to find the suspect and arrested him after identifying him based on descriptions given by his victims.
